Care for your candle

Candle Care

Thank you so much for choosing Akasha Candle Co! You now have this beautiful handmade coconut soy candle, it’s time to take care of your candle for your own safety and for maximum longevity. Following these steps will result in a cleaner and longer burn, a better scent throw and warm, cozy vibes.

  • For your first time lighting the Akasha Candle allow the candle to create a full and even burn pool across the entire candle. The rule of thumb is to burn one hour per inch in diameter.

  • Your candle wick will need trimming every time before you light it – 1/4 inch (3-5mm) is perfect.

  • For subsequent lightings never let your candle burn for more than 4 hours at a time. If you do, the tin may become too hot to handle.

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.

  • Keep your burning candle away from any pets or children.

  • Do not leave your candle near a window, vents or drafts. Make sure to keep it in a secure place where people won’t be walking past it every few minutes. Moving air can disturb the flame and create an uneven burn.

  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.

  • Keep your candle on a heat resistant surface, as the jars can get very hot.

  • Do not light your candle too close to other candles.

  • Never move the candle when the liquid is burning or touch the flame.

  • Do not burn the candle all the way to the bottom of the jar. We recommend leaving around 5mm of wax.

  • We encourage, once the candle is finished to reuse and recycle your jar! You can use it as a planter, make up holder, or anything you can think of!

  • Top Tip: If you do not have wick trimmers or a nail clipper, use your hands to trim the wick and keep it healthy for each burn.

You can find the safety label on the base of all of our candles as well as a safety candle care card in all our packages. If you’re ever unsure please do get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
